Eduard 1/72 Albatros D.V Weekend
By Matt Bittner
Since we have covered Eduard's excellent 1/72 Albatros D.V many times in the past (the first was their Non-Profipack release, next a Full Build of the Profipack release, next was a look at the Jasta 5 Dual Combo release as well as a Full Build of that Dual Combo) I won't go into any detail of this release, which is as a "Weekend" kit, #7204.
It's the same contents of all the other releases without the photoetch nor the masks. There is only one scheme, that of Ltn Flashar's Dragon-marked aircraft of Jasta 5. While it is the same markings that came with the Jasta 5 Dual Combo, it's nice to have the decals again if you only wanted that scheme.
Conclusion
Since the kit is holding up well to the test of time I have no qualms to recommend this to all. Sure, there are a couple of little things to make this an awesome model, but out-of-the-box this builds into an excellent model of the Albatros D.V.There is only one thing I wish. That Eduard would release the photoetch from the Dual Combo kit as a separate set. That way if we were to acquire a Weekend kit in some fashion (afterall this is the Holiday season, or also as a birthday gift) we could add the photoetch on our own. In fact, I wish that for all of Eduard's 1/72 kits. There are Weekend examples of the Nieuport 17, plus bagged kits of that and the Fokker E.III. If we were to have the choice of adding the photoetch on our own, I'm sure some of us would. Heck, I know I would. Plus I would use Eduard's photoetch for non-Eduard models I have planned.
Our thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
