Eduard 1/72 Fokker Dr.I Weekend Edition
By Matt Bittner
Many years ago I built the Eduard 1/72 Fokker F.I, the pre-production version of the infamous Fokker Triplane, and even later than that, I built a Dr.I in conjunction with two other kit manufacturers. I've already looked at the first release of their Weekend Edition so nothing has changed between that and this release except for the marking options. For this release (kit #7438) Eduard has provided decals for the following aircraft:
- 479/17, Lt August Raban, Jasta 18, Montingen, France, October 1918 (his famous red-and-white aircraft with the white raven)
- 195/17, Lt Hermann Vallendor, Jasta 2, Halluin, France, April 1918 (typical streaked finish with a large, white 'V' on the fuselage sides)
I still have a problem with the small engine in the kit but thankfully Eduard has released a Brassin replacement. The only thing I would still consider replacing are the gun's cooling jackets as photoetch ones better represent the real ones (which are contained in Eduard's separate Zoom photoetch set for this kit).
This shouldn't be a difficult, long build and thankfully there isn't a lot of rigging to it. Thank you to Eduard for sending this to review.
