Peewit Circle Masks
By Matt Bittner
Every once in a while the modeling world releases something you think to yourself "why did it take this long to be released". When I was working on the Kovozávody Prostějov 1/72 Zlin Z-226B not only at that time was I lamenting the lack of canopy masks, but I was also suffering through creating my own masks for the wheels. I ususally paint my models' wheels/tires by first spraying the color of the wheel (or "hub"), masking it and then following up by spraying the tire. Doing it this way means you usually need to create your own masks for the wheels, unless you're lucky enough that a company like Eduard has released masks for that model in which case they usually include the wheel masks along with canopy masks. Since no one had released masks for KP's Zlins at that time I had to use my circle template to cut my own masks. Usually that works well if you have a new, sharp knife blade and take your time. But there still is room for error.
Not any more. If no one has released aftermarket masks for the model you're working on, especially for the wheels then here is Peewit to the rescue. Since receiving these two sets of circle-masks Peewit has released more sizes so measure what you need and buy accordingly. Or do what I'm going to do and buy all of them. The two sets Peewit sent measure from 5.5 - 6.9mm and 10.8 - 11.3 mm but they have ten other sets of circles. All told you have circles starting at 2.5mm and going all the way up to 14.75 which means there should be a circle mask for just about anything you need, especially if all you need are masks for aircraft wheels.
I'm definitely thankful Peewit has released these as it makes masking wheels a lot easier. Sure you'll need to buy them all for the full coverage but since they're based on "yellow tape" you should be able to use each mask on more than one model.
Huge thanks - and plenty of apologies for taking so long - to Peewit for supplying these masks to review. Note that in the United States you can find these masks at Roll Models.
