JBr Decals 1/144 Spitfire Recce Fighters
By Matt Bittner
First was their Spitfire: In Israeli Service, which was followed by Spitfire: Niners of the World. After those two releases JBr Decals came out with Spitfire: In Czechoslovak Service and then their release after that was for a German-captured Rosarius Spitfire.
Now, JBr Decals has turned their attention to the Eduard Spitfire Mk.IXc by releasing this set of decals to create two "pink" Mk.IXcs that flew with No. 16 Squadron RAF. Those two aircraft are:
- Spitfire FR.Mk.IXc MK716 'X'
- Spitfire FT.Mk.IXc MK915 'V'

As was already mentioned, both were painted in a very pale "pink" color. It wasn't considered to be Camoutint Pink, but lighter - so light, in fact, the D-Day stripes on the underside of the wings showed through the paint.
There is one modificiation that will need to be made, and that is to drill the hole in the port fuselage-half, near the cockpit, where the camera would have been aimed out of. There is no recommended size, so you'll just need to follow the instruction sheet and "eyeball it".
Decals are really well done and appear to be in register. The only thing I wish they would have included - especially in 1/144 - are the D-Day stripes. Sure, it's always best to paint these stripes, but it would have been nice to have the option.
Regardless of the lack of stripes, this is still a set to track down, especially if you want to build a Mk.IXc as a "pink" recce bird.
A definite "thank you" to JBr Decals for supplying this set of decals for review.
