Eduard 1/72 MiG-15 Brassin Airbrakes
By Matt Bittner
Eduard tends to supply their kits with plenty of aftermarket items to really make their kits stand out. With their release of this Brassin Airbrakes set (#672 021) for their 1/72 MiG-15 you'll have plenty to make your MiG-15 stand out from the rest.
Naturally this one requires a little more surgery than other released sets. You'll need to cut the exhaust "can" from the rest of the pipe, since the entire pipe won't fit with the new airbrakes. You'll also need to cut out the airbrake area from the kit, including the small hinge areas. Once all that is accomplished you can start construction.
The interior of the airbrakes is built-up using photoetch. You'll need to fold the photoetch to match the fuselage-area outline, then glue it in, followed by the back. Once all of that is in place then you can start adding the actual airbrakes. There are two pieces of photoetch to add to the actuator and then that is added to the airbrake. However, you'll need to come up with some way to hold it all into place correctly while gluing. I would suggest placing the airbrake hinges into the slots, without gluing, while you glue in the actuator. Once that is dried then apply a small amount of glue into the hinge areas.
Couple this with their Brassin Cockpit and you'll have an excellent 1/72 MiG-15 for display.
Many thanks to Eduard for supplying the airbrakes for review.
