Brengun 1/72 Letov Š-16 Photoetch
By Matt Bittner
Brengun is another company from The Czech Republic known not only for their photoetch but also for their kits. Typically they release subjects that have either not been kitted before, or those that have been kitted long ago in the past. That is definitely the case with their 1/72 Letov Š-16. KP released their own version many, many years ago and while you can still find it occasionally today, it's of older technology and definitely was in need of a modern-day replacement.
Now that the Brengun 1/72 Letov Š-16 is out it was inevitable they would release an enhancement photoetch set for it. This set from Brengun, BRL72087 includes items that don't exist in the kit or are best replaced with brass. Naturally there are items for the cockpit which consists of a throttle quadrant and other levers, a replacement instrument panel with clear film, a replacement control stick that is folded to give it more relief and enhancements to the rudder pedals. Where this set really shines, though, are the parts for the rear-gunner's gun ring. There are pieces that go between the two guns (and the instructions have you remove the molded-on barrel-end sights), better looking ammo drums (which are built-up using plastic sheet), more accurate "holders" for the gun elevation mechanism and a more realistic gun elevation mechanism.
There are also parts to add the top of the upper wing, control horns for the ailerons and stabs, a better-looking radiator for the front of the aircraft and shackles that go between the bomb racks and bombs.
All in all this is a great set to add plenty of enhancements to the excellent Brengun 1/72 Š-16 kit.
My thanks to Brengun for the review set of photoetch.
