Brengun 1/144 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IX Vacuform Canopies
By Matt Bittner
In most cases, especially in 1/144, kit-supplied canopies (especially those of injected molded plastic) are too thick. Plus, because of the technology, clear, injected canopies can't get much thinner. So, in some cases (especially in 1/144) you'll want some sort of replacement, especially if you have plenty of cockpit detail to "show off". In most of those cases the replacement will be vacuum-formed plastic.
This is the case with the Eduard 1/144 Spitfire Mk.IXe. It's a great kit out of the box, but if you add cockpit detail (in the form of the Brengun photoetch set, for example) you want a canopy in which you can see through easily, or one that can be positioned opened. In the case of this set of vacuum-formed canopies from Brengun, you can do either.
There are two canopies with this release, which is great because the Eduard kit contains two models. You receive a completely "closed" canopy, or one that is in separate parts and which the sliding portion can be displayed open. Granted, you still have to cut and sand each part out, but it's great Brengun gives you that option.
So, you can have one of your Spitfire Mk.IXs with the canopy closed, and the other one open, which is how I'm planning on displaying mine.
Many thanks to Brengun for sending us the review canopies.
