Clear Prop 1/72 I-16 Type 5 In Finnish Service
By Matt Bittner
Overview
This is a new release of the Clear Prop I-16 Type 5, this time in Finnish markings. In this First Look I will just provide what the difference is between the first Clear Prop I-16 reviewed and this boxing.
The Kit
This release contains an extra sprue and a new 3D printed tail skid. Markings are for only one Type 5, that in service with 2/LeLv 30 of the Finnish Airforce, the only difference being when it was flown. During August 1942 it flew with wheeled landing gear, while during the Winter, 1942-1943, it flew with skis. Otherwise the finish is the same.
The extra sprue contains not only the skis used with this release, but also a different set used with other Clear Prop releases. In addition the extra sprue contains an entirely new wing underside piece, this one with the landing gear doors molded shut, being how it was flown with the ski undercarriage. The 3D printed tail skid contains a smaller wheel than what was used in the previous versions of this kit.
To read on how the kit is arranged and builds, refer to my prior First Look.
Conclusion
I'm looking forward to starting this, and it will be my first full build of a Clear Prop I-16. I'm still hopeful they'll continue releasing the later Types of Rata.
Huge, HUGE thanks to Clear Prop for the review kit.
