Kovozávody Prostějov 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IXe in IDF/IAF Service
By Matt Bittner
A few years ago I reviewed the AZ Model 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IX series of models. To this day it's still considered the best Mk.IX on the market in 1/72 and is definitely worth tracking down.
For those unaware, the owners of AZ Model are also the owners of Kovozávody Prostějov (KP). Since KP has recently released new-tools of the early Spitfires (Mk.Ib/IIb/Vb) I suppose it makes sense for KP to "take over" the AZ molds of the Mk.IX and re-release those as well. Since I've already reviewed the AZ Model release I will let you read about the kits' contents via that article (although as you see the KP release is in gray plastic versus the tan of the AZ kit). This release includes decals for the following IDF/IAF aircraft:
- Spitfire LF Mk.IXe, "White 22", 101st Tayeset, IAF, Hatzor, 1949 (Aircraft in British camouflage with typical marking of 101st squadron IAF)
- Spitfire LF Mk.IXe, "Black 58", 105th Tayeset, Ramat David, 1952 (Aircraft in nuatural metal with red lightning bolts on fuselage sides)
- Spitfire LF Mk.IXe, "Black 89", 105th Tayeset (Scorpion), 1955 (One of the last IAF Spitfires in then new blue/brown camouflage)
So if you're looking for the best 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IX currently on the market, and want that Spitfire in IDF/IAF markings then by all means pick up this release.
I definitely thank Kovozávody Prostějov for sending the review model.
