Model Craft Micro Hand Drill
By Matt Bittner
Another excellent release from Model Craft - via Billing Boats - is this Micro Hand Drill. You might be asking yourself "why do I need another hand drill if I have one already?" Well, this is because this certain hand drill has a "twist". Literally and figuratively. If you look at the picture where I'm using it, you'll see my fingers on a "separate" shank on the main body of the drill. The way this drill operates is you hold it in the place you want to make a hole (and can hold it on the very top of the drill) and with the other hand/fingers, push down on the separate shank and the drill will - well - drill! If the material is "dense" enough, it will keep the drill bit in place as the "shank" slides back up the body (via the return spring) and you can do it all over again. Keep pushing on the shank (and letting it back up) until your hole is drilled.
Now I mentioned if the material is dense enough in the paragraph above. I used it on some "lighter weight" plastic, and it would hold the drill bit enough to keep the drill bit from "un-twisting", so in this case you'll have to use it like a regular hand drill. But when the material is "dense" enough (like the resin in the picture) it will hold the drill bit so the drill bit won't "un-twist".One other great thing about this hand drill. It will hold drill bits that are close to zero (0). The hand drill's "head" goes from 0 to 1.2mm, so it will handle the smallest drill bits available (which are also made by Model Craft).
Another excellent tool by Model Craft. My thanks to Billing Boats for the review hand drill.
