Model Craft Magnifier Tweezers
By Matt Bittner
An interesting tool design from Model Craft is this pair of Magnifier Tweezers. Basically it's a pair of tweezers with a magnifying glass directly attached. The tweezers even fold into the base of the magnifying glass, making the whole assembly flat for easier storage.Even if you usually use some sort of magnifying system in your model building, these can come in handy when you don't have them attached on your head either at the modeling desk or at a contest. They would definitely come in handy then - when something detaches prior to a contest, you can use these to re-attach them prior to judging.
I have one concern with them. There's no way you can get into tight places with these. With the magnifying glass attached the tool is just too big. But, if needing some magnification on the exterior of your model while placing a part, then these are what you want.
Finally, a suggestion to Model Craft. These are great if you want to quickly place a part you need extra magnification for. However, if you want to use these tweezers to have magnification to actually work on a part, then they're a little awkward in having to keep pressing the tweezers to keep them closed. I think having a pair of "press to open" tweezers with the magnifier would also be a great idea. That way you can keep the part in the tweezers while working on it and not have to worry about putting the part back in the tweezers when you need to reposition. My thanks to Billing Boats USA for letting me have the opportunity to try these tweezers.
