While the DML/Dragon 1/72 Su-24 kit has a few problems, on the whole it is a decent kit limited only by the minimal decal choices in the box. Hi-Decal has come to the rescue, though, with this new sheet offering five Su-24s from three different air forces. The first choice is a Su-24MK Fencer D of the Soviet Air Force based at Kubinka AB in 1991. This plane has a blue 92 on the intakes and features two-tone upper surface camouflage of sand and dark brown over the standard blue-gray. The various antenna housings are all painted white, as on all the choices on this sheet. The second Soviet example has the upper surfaces in blue gray with the lower surfaces in white, with a white 24 on the intakes. The third Soviet example is one based in East Germany and has a three-color camouflage consisting of two shades of green and one shade of brown, with the lower surfaces in light blue, with a low demarcation. This plane has a red 17 on the intakes, repeated, albeit smaller, on the fin tip. All three Soviet examples have the standard Russian stars in the usual places.
The two foreign examples are closely tied together, one being Iraqi and the other being an ex-Iraqi plane interned in Iran. The camouflage on both consists of a two-tone upper camouflage consisting of two shades of brown over a light blue. The demarcation is high up on the fuselage sides, with the pattern matching that of the first Soviet example. The Iraqi example has the Iraqi flag on the tail and the triangle insignia underneath the tailplanes, as well as on both wings. Arabic numbers are on the nose. Moving to the Iranian side, the markings change slightly, with the Iranian flag on the tail and Iranian roundels on both wings and on the engine intakes. The centers for the roundels are provided separately. IRIAF is in black on the nose. The sheet also includes a complete set of stenciling for one plane.
If you want something a little different for your Sukhoi, this is a great sheet to pick up. The decals are well printed and in great register, providing a much better alternative to the rather thick decals in the DML kit.
