The Vietnam War has been over for decades, but interest in the aviation side remains high. This latest title in the Air Force Legends series helps feed that interest with a book that is not a comprehensive history of the air war, nor a detailed examination of the aircraft. Instead, this is a photo history of the USAF in Vietnam, coupled with personal histories of several people who were there.
The book really follows no clear plan, other than a very rough chronological approach. The majority of the text in this book comes in the form of photo captions, and there is a lot of information presented in those. The actual anecdotal stories are a great read, generally falling into the category of "There I was...." types of stories. When it comes to the actual photographs, these are really wonderful, incorporating both color and black and white shots. Just about every type of aircraft flown during the war is included, as well as good coverage of the various weaponry utilized.
For those looking for inspiration for your next Air Force build, this book will keep you busy for quite some time. My thanks to Ginter Books for the review copy.
