Squadron's just released a pair of bomber titles that give the reader (and modeler) some great reference information. In this first release, the focus is on the still-classified Northrop B-2 Spirit. The author covers the development and current status of the aircraft, with as many great detail photos that one could get without becoming intimate with Security Police weaponry.
The author has also provided an excellent rundown (and close look) of the weapons carried by the B-2, including the updated bunker-buster bomb. Originally carried by the F-111 (and later the F-15E), the laser-guided bunker buster was used with devastating accuracy in Iraq. As you'll see in this title, gone is the laser guidance kit and in its place is the GPS-guided JDAM modules.
The title is rounded out with some great user interviews and recent operational history of the Spirit in action. This title is highly recommended!
The second increment in the bomber releases is the Bone (B-one). The author provides an up-close look at this late-blooming bomber and the successes that it has accumulated in recent years.
Plagued by development problems and an on-again, off-again procurement strategy between US Presidents, the B-1 would finally enter limited production though with some significant performance restrictions in the name of detente. While the B-1A was a Mach 2 aircraft, the B-1B would be limited to subsonic speeds on the deck and limited supersonic capabilities at altitude. On the otherhand, numerous enhancements were added to the Bone increase its survivability.
This title is also close to a walk-around in the quality of detail shots of the aircraft and its armament. As with the B-2 title above, this title gives a great look the array of the new generation weapons that are being fielded on all US combat aircraft. This one is also a must-have for your reference library. Highly recommended!
