In this second volume of Junkers aircraft during WWI, this volume covers the J 5 and J 6; the J 7; J 9 (which became the military D.I single-seat fighter); and the J 8 and J 10 (which became the Military Cl.I). The book continues by covering the Marine (Navy) aircraft; the large Riesenflugzeug (R) projects; the Junkers company post-armistice; and finally camouflage and markings for all the Junkers metal aircraft, covering both Volume 1 and Volume 2.
Both the J 9 (Military D.I) and J 10 (Mlitary Cl.I two-seater) didn't see much action during WWI because they arrived too late to the front; however, both served post-war in various other conflicts and Junkers tried to convert the Cl.I into an enclosed rear-cockpit civilian "air liner".
As with Volume 1, Volume 2 ends with scale drawings of each aircraft covered. In addition, as with Volume 1, Volume 2 contains wonderful color profiles by Juanita Franzi, a modeler's delight.
Kit-wise, the D.I was best served. In 1/32 Wingnut Wings produced an excellent model; in 1/48 you have both the short and long fuselage versions by Roden. However, the model was most served in 1/72 with examples from Rareplanes as a vac; Pegasus as an early injected plastic kit; Choroszy in resin; and both the short and long fuselage versions from Roden. Pegasus released a plastic injected kit in 1/72 for the Cl.I and Classic Plane had a vacuformed example released long ago. If 1/144 is your scale, then try to track down the long out-of-print SRAM resin kit.
This is an excellent companion to Volume 1 and both are a must to understand Hugo Junkers advanced designs - for the time - in metal aircraft.
