Modeler's Eye Series #2 ISBN 4-499-22762-3 80 pages, softbound
Like theĀ Gekko book reviewed elsewhere, this book also mimics the Aero Detail format. While the Gekko has limited coverage, the opposite is true for the F/A-18 Hornet. This title is still useful for the Hornet fan as it has more coverage on the newer versions of the F/A-18 than the earlier ones. Like the Gekko book, this title also has a sponsorship, this time from Hasegawa.
There's plenty of color photos spread throughout the 80 pages of this book, covering all angles including a section on weaponry. Unlike the Gekko title, these photos are all of active duty aircraft and as such there's a bit more dirt and grime in the corners. This just adds to the value of this reference as it shows just where to weather your Hornet model.
A section of color illustrations complement the photos, showing several striking schemes worn by the Hornet. Unfortunately they only scrape the surface, as the F-18 has worn the markings of several countries and many, many squadrons. If you want a marking reference you'll have to find it elsewhere, but for a detail reference this can't be beat.
The final sections cover the Hasegawa 1/48 kit and a set of drawings. The drawings offer full views and are to 1/72 scale.
