This latest title from Periscopio Publications provides an interesting selection of articles, coupled with several useful historical pieces. The subjects covered include, in 1/48, three Spitfires (one Mk V Trop, one Mk IXc, and a second Mk V in Greek markings), a Ju 88A-4, two P-47s, a Hawker Tempest, a Dewoitine D-520, and a Dauntless, with a Fw 190D-9, He 162, and Bf 109G-10 in 1/32. The history articles cover Operation Husky, the Fokker D.XXI, the Ki-61 Hein, and the well-known Bf 109G-2 “Black 6”.
The modeling articles are similar to the detailed build articles you might find here or in other magazine publications, although perhaps presented in a bit more depth. The photo coverage of these builds is quite good, and the descriptions provide quite a few useful tips and tricks. The finished models are stunning, and should provide some great inspiration for any modeler.
The history articles cover some fascinating subjects. These are well written and amply illustrated with plenty of photos. In addition to the written and photographic coverage, there are over one hundred color profile illustrations, covering both the historical and modeling articles. When all put together, the result is a very useful book that provides an excellent introduction to some advanced modeling techniques as well as some research potential.
My thanks to Periscopio Publications for the review copy.
