Yellow-Wings Decals 1/48 USN N2S-3 "Yellow Peril"
By Mike Whye
Yellow-Wings Decals has became well known among modelers for creating great sets of decals for U.S. military aircraft from the early 1930s to the early part of World War II. Each set of decals from Yellow-Wings contains four-color and black-line drawings and placement instructions. All decals are printed by Microscale.
Set 48-082 has decals to depict two complete Stearman N2S-3 Kaydet trainers flown by the Navy in 1941 and 1942. Both of the all-orange-yellow "Yellow Peril" trainers, as they were nicknamed, were operated by the Navy.
One Stearman was flown by NAS Corpus Christi in Texas. Its decals include six national roundels with red centers, black white wing walks, tri-color prop tips and red fuselage and wing bands.
The other Stearman was flown at NRAB Dallas, Texas. The only difference with the other aircraft depicted in this set of decals, beside ID numbers, is this aircraft had green fuselage and wing bands.
Our thanks to Yellow-Wings Decals for sending this set to review.
