Yellow-Wings Decals 1/48 USAAC P-6E #1
By Mike Whye
Yellow-Wings Decals has became well known among modelers for creating great sets of decals for U.S. military aircraft from the early 1930s to the early part of World War II. Each set of decals from Yellow-Wings contains four-color and black-line drawings and placement instructions. All decals are printed by Microscale.
Set 48-084 has decals to completely depict two U.S. Army Air Corps P-6E Hawk fighters.
One P-6E, painted with an olive drab fuselage, yellow wings and vertical stabilizer and a red nose cap, flew with the 94th Pursuit Squadron at Selfridge Field, Michigan in 1930. Decals for it include red and white rudder stripes, four national roundels for the wings, unit emblems, black and white ID numbers, yellowing lettering, red fuselage bands and cape and Prestone labels. The unit badge shows a Native American wearing a headdress of feathers.
The other P-6E had a blue-gray fuselage, yellow vertical stabilizer and wings and red nose cap and spats on the landing gear. The decals for this aircraft, which flew with the 33rd Pursuit Squadron in the 1934 Virginia Beach Summer Camp, include four national roundels with red centers for the wings, red and white rudder stripes, Prestone labels, numbers, red and white ID numbers, black U.S. Army, red fuselage bands and unit badges depicting outstretched eagle claws.
Our thanks to Yellow-Wings Decals for the review decals.
