Yellow-Wings Decals 1/32 Boeing P-12E, 1933-1934
By Matt Bittner
Yellow-Wings continue their release for 1/32 between-the-war ('tweener) aircraft with this single scheme for the Hasegawa 1/32 Boeing P-12E. While there is only one scheme catered for with this release, it's for a very colorful aircraft.
The 18th Pursuit Group's (Territory of Hawaii) Group Commander's Aircraft, while finished in the typical Olive Drab fuselage with orange-yellow wings and tail, the rest of the markings will really make the model stand out. For the top of the upper wing are provided commander stripes that are red, yellow and blue. However, the stripes as they were on the fuselage are red, yellow and "gold". In addition the Townend ring over the engine had "gold" stripes, and there was a "gold triangle" on the front of the fuselage running from the engine back toward the cockpit. Plus, the squadron badge's background was changed to "gold".The other colorful addition to the aircraft was a yellow/red "ying/yang" symbol what was painted on the wheel covers. Yellow-Wings also provide both "black" and "gold" aircraft number '6' one could apply depending on the time period. With the instructions are provided two photos, one showing a black '6', the other showing a "gold" '6'.
In addition to all the squadron and national markings, Yellow-Wings also provides stencils for the aircraft, this time providing instructions on where the stencils are to be placed. Excellent! Plus they provide extra gold decal stock, "just in case".
Once finished, the Hasegawa 1/32 Boeing P-12E will look stunning in these markings.
Our thanks to Yellow-Wings Decals for this review set.
