Wolfpak Decals 1/72 Stars in their Courses
By Matt Bittner
If you've never seen a release from Wolfpak Decals, then you may not know they tend to release decals for different aircraft, but still built around a theme. This theme is Strategic Air Command (SAC) aircraft and most of the decals on this sheet are to 1/72. As well as being known for their unique take on 1/72 decals, Wolfpak Decals is also known for their extensive instruction sheets. Not only do they provide a list of models for each subject, how the subject differed from other aircraft of that type, but Wolfpak also provides a pretty extensive history section, not only on the specific aircraft being covered, but also squadron, role and overall history of the aircraft type. In other words, the instruction sheet is itself a history lesson.
Stars in their Courses provide decals for the following SAC aircraft, all to 1/72 except for the Snark:
- B-58A, 43rd Bomber Wing (BW), Little Rock Air Force Base (AFB), SAC Bomb & Nav Competition 1969 (finished as a typical B-58 with additional fin and nose markings for the Competition)
- SM-62 (Snark), 702nd SMW, Presque Isle AFB, February 1961 (decals are for the old, box-scale (1/81) Monogram Snark, finished overall in FS 16473)
- C-45G, 817th Air Division, Pease AFB, September 1957 (finished in white over bare metal with red fin and wing-tip flashes)
- T-38A, 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing (SRW), 1971 (finished as most T-38s in overall white)
- B-47E, 305th BW, Bunker Hill AFB (later Grissom AFB), September 1960 (finished as a typical B-47 with orange slipper tanks)
- B-47E, 303rd BW, Davis-Monthan AFB, Deployed to Elmendorf AFB, May 1960 (finished as a typical B-47 except with more white on the fuselage sides
Decals are printed by Fantasy Printshop and look to be in register and the colors really well done. If any of these subjects strike a fancy, then this is a must-purchase.
We definitely thank Wolfpak Decals for providing the review sample.
