Videoaviation.com 1/72 MHU-12 Munition Trailer
By Matt Bittner
The MHU-12 was mainly a munitions trailer that hauled various ordnance from storage to the flightline and was used during Vietnam, amongst other places, and were phased out during the 1980s. These trailers could haul just about any munitions, keeping the maximum load (5000 pounds) in mind. They included a center section that could be removed so items like bomb fins could be easily accommodated.
The videoaviation.com 1/72 MHU-12 Munition Trailer consists of 14 tan, resin parts for each trailer; there are two trailers provided. Construction will be relatively easy by first gluing the top parts of the trailer to a common "core", gluing the axles to the underside of each trailer part, gluing the wheels and tow-bar to the assembly, and then deciding how you want the final trailer to look. You can display it completely "closed" which means it's a completely "flat" trailer; you can display it "opened" which is how it's used to haul bombs; or you could display it "open" but also with the provided missile carriers (which makes the completed model just a tad higher).
Since there are two trailers in the package you could build one one-way, and the second another. Or, you could leave one where the center sections of the trailer (that include the "racks" to hold the bombs) are unglued so you can change that trailer on a whim. Early versions of the "real" trailer were finished overall in yellow, while later versions – especially those used during the Vietnam war – were overall in green.
These will make great additions to any aircraft display. Huge thanks to videoaviation.com for sending this set of trailers in for review.
