Starfighter Decals 1/72 Early Wildcats Part 3
By Matt Bittner
Starfighter continues down the path of providing decals for the between-the-wars and early WW2 time period by releasing the third sheet for the Hasegawa F4F Wildcat. This sheet covers the following aircraft, all being Blue Gray over Light Gray:
-
F4F-4 Bu.4084, VF41, USS Ranger, 1941
-
F4F-4 Bu.Unknown, LtJG William Leonard, VF-11, Guadalcanal, June 1943
-
F4F-4 Bu.5093, LtCdr Jimmy Thatch, CO VF-3, USS Yorktown, 4 June 1942
-
F4F-4 Bu.5193, Machinist D.E. Runyon, VF-6, USS Enterprise, August 1942
As with all the 1/72 Starfighter sheets this one is printed superbly by Cartograf and looks excellent. Everything is provided to cover all four aircraft, so no searching through your spares box, or other aftermarket decals for something left out. In fact, you don't even have to track down national insignia if you want to build more than one model from this sheet. It contains national markings and everything to cover four separate models! A definite bargain at US$5.00!!
If you enjoy the Wildcat, then these decals are for you. I would even say purchase all three sets because they're all unique, and make for an excellent history lesson of the Grumman F4F.
My thanks to Starfigther Decals for the review sample.
