Starfighter 1/72 P-36 Upgrade
By Matt Bittner
Starfighter has thankfully not sat on their laurels. With this latest release is a way to detail the venerable Monogram P-36, still a great kit in its own right. Sure, the kit has raised panel lines, but it's accurate and not that difficult to build. And now, with this Starfighter set, it can be brought "into the modern world".
The set consists of sidewalls for each fuselage piece, an instrument panel and forward bulkhead, a nicely molded seat (including seat belts), a control stick and floor rounds out cockpit pieces, and two landing gear wells for each side of the aircraft.
As with all Starfighter sets there are parts and pieces that need to be either removed, or modified in such a way to let the resin pieces sit correctly. On the P-36 this consists of removing the faux instrument panel (marking its location as you remove it). In addition, you need to remove part of the upper wing where the gear wells will sit and a portion of the lower wing as well. Neither are a difficult chore if you follow the illustrated instructions.
If you want a decent P-36/Hawk 75, then Starfighter gives you another reason to stick with the Monogram kit. Couple the resin with their recently released decals, and a nice model can be built from this older kit. Don't let the age of the Monogram kit get in your way!
My thanks to Starfighter for the review sample.
