By Matt Bittner
Starfighter Decals has, from time-to-time, released decals of multiple aircraft subjects based on a theme. This time the theme is USAAF and USMC aircraft at Midway from 3 through 7 June 1942. There are seven different aircraft types represented and Starfighter Decals includes national markings for each type, but only one of each type:
- B-17E, 41-2409, 431 BS/11 BG, Midway, 'Old Maid' as flown by Col Sweeny
- B-17E, 41-2397, 431 BS/11 BG, Midway
- B-17E, 41-2525, 431 BS/11 BG, Midway, 'Madame X'
- B-26, 40-1391, 18 RS/22 BG, Midway, 'Susie-Q', as flown by 1Lt Jim Muri

- F4F-3, 2532, VMF-221, 27, Midway, as flown by 2Lt Roy Corry Jr
- TBF-1, 00380, VT-8, 8-T-1, as flown by Ens Albert K Ernest, AMM3c JD Manning, and ARM Harry Ferrier
- SB2U-3, 2053, VMSB-241, 2, Midway, as flown by Capt Richard Flemming and PFC George Toms
- SB2U-3, 2045, VMSB-231, 6, Midway, as flown by 2Lt James H Marmande and PFC Edby M Colvin
- SB2U-3, 2054, VMSB-241, 11, Midway, as flown by 2Lt Sumner Whitten and Sgt Frank Zelnis
- SBD-2, 2106, VMSB-241, 6, Midway, as flown by Lt Daniel Iverson and PFC Wallace Reid
The instructions not only include color information for each aircraft but also which model is best used for the type and if there are any nuances that need to be modeled as well.
All-in-all this is an excellent selection of markings if you're looking for different types than USN aircraft that flew at Midway during WW2.
My thanks to Starfighter Decals for sending this sheet for review.
