Starfighter Decals 1/72 Seagulls at War SOC-1/3
By Matt Bittner
One of Starfighter Decals' niche is catering to older releases that no one else touches. Another niche of theirs is towards between-the-wars aircraft, even those that served during war-time. This release covers all of that.
The following aircraft can be modeled with this release:
- SOC-1, BuNo 9951, VCS-5, CA-26, USS Northampton 7 Dec 1941, LT M.C. Reeves; floats
- SOC-1, BuNo 9934, VCS-5, CA-26 USS Northampton 7 Dec 1941, ENS F.H. Covington; floats
- SOC-3A, BuNo Unknown, VS-201, AVG-1, Â USS Long Island April 1942, LCDR Lex Black, CO ov VS-201; wheels
- SOC-1A, BuNo Unknown, USS Charger, CVE-30, Jan 1944; wheels and Gloss Sea Blue uppers
- SOC-3, BuNo Unknown, VCS-8, CL-47, USS Philadelphia April 1942; floats
- SOC-1, BuNo Unknown, VCS-7, CL-37, USS Tuscaloosa 1942; floats
As is usual for decals from Starfighter Decals, these are printed exceptionally well and look to be in register. All aircraft, aside from the SOC-1A from CVE-30, consist of USN Blue Gray uppers with Light Gray undersides.
Hopefully with this release it means that Starfighter is now turning their attention to the venerable Hasegawa 1/72 SOC Seagull. This is one model that definitely needs some aftermarket "love" and Starfighter is the perfect company to do so.
Huge thanks to Starfighter Decals for allowing me to review this set.
