Starfighter Decals 1/72 Boeing F4B-3 Conversion
By Matt Bittner
Starfighter Decals is the company to go to when you're looking for alternatives - or additions - for the older Monogram 1/72 biplane kits. This time they've released an easy conversion set to backdate the 1/72 F4B-4.
The conversion couldn't be simpler. Remove the vertical stabilizer (the "fin", not the "rudder") from the kit and replace it with the resin piece contained within the package. See, simple. In addition to the conversion fin, the kit also includes decals for the following aircraft:
- F4B-3, 8911, HQ USMC, which had a cowl that was striped red/white/blue
- F4B-3, 8898, VF-1B, 1932, with a red vertical tail, fuselage stripe, upper wing chevron and cowl faceplate
- F4B-3, 8894, VB-4M, 1934, with a white chevron on the upper wing
Decals are printed by Cartograf so are very well done with nice colors, and in register.
If you have a stash of Monogram F4B-4s like I do, and want to build more than just -4s, then you'll need to pick up this conversion set from Starfighter to add variety. Couple it with their already released cockpit and their EZ Rigging, and you'll definitely have a nicely finished Boeing F4B-3.
Many thanks to Starfighter Decals for sending this set in to review.
