Starfighter Decals 1/72 Bent Wings Birds Pt.3 (F4U-4)
By Matt Bittner
One thing I really like about Starfighter Decals is they release decal sets for subjects others wouldn't think to cover. This time they have released the next in their series of decals for the F4U Corsair – specifically the F4U-4 – and it covers two aircraft that took part in an incident during the Korean War.
Ensign Jesse L. Brown, the first African-American aviator in the U.S. Navy, was flying his F4U-4 when he was shot down and had to crash land in Korea. His wingman, Lt JG Thomas Hunder purposefully crash-landed his F4U-4 to assist Ensign Brown. Unfortunately Ensign Brown died from his wounds before he could be rescued.
This set of decals from Starfighter Decals will allow you to build both aircraft:
- F4U-4, 82050, VF-32, K/203, USN, 1950, LtJG Thomas Hunder Jr, MOH
- F4U-4, 97231, VF-32, K/205 or K/217 (decals provided for both), USN, 1950, as flown by Ens. Jesse Brown, DFC
The decals are to Starfighter Decals usual high standards and appear to be in register. You receive enough decals to build both aircraft.
A definite "thank you" to Starfighter Decals for sending this review set.
