Starfighter Decals 1/144 Atlantic Coast Hawkeyes
By Matt Bittner
The Revell 1/144 E-2C Hawkeye is considered an excellent representation of the Airborne Early Warning aircraft and builds into a fine model. Since there were over sixty built, and re-paintings a common occurrence, there exists the possibility to build plenty of 1/144 Hawkeyes. Starfighter Decals helps with that by providing three different E-2Cs that flew with squadrons on the Atlantic Coast:
- VAW-124, Bear Aces, CVW-8, 1981
- VAW-125 Tigertails, CVW-17, 1996
- VAW-126 Sea Hawk, CVW-2, 2005
The Bear Aces aircraft is the earlier Gull Gray over Insignia White scheme while the other two are the overall Gull Gray scheme. Unfortunately the instructions just show a left-side profile, with small drawings for the upper wing, and an even smaller overall upper drawing. Decals are nicely printed and appear to be in register. Be aware the decals are for just the markings for the specific aircraft, all other decals the instructions state need to come from the kit.
I can't tell if these aircraft had the four- or eight-blade propellers. I'm assuming since they're not called out in the instructions as such, they all probably used the four-bladed props.
If you're looking for alternate markings for your Revell 1/144 E-2C then you'll want to pick up this sheet.
My thanks to Starfighter Decals for sending this sheet for review.
