Rocketeer Decals C-47 Skytrain “Special Mission” Decals
By Matt Bittner
Rocketeer Decals tend to release decals others don't. This is definitely true for their C-47 "Special Mission" markings. While they have been released in both 1/72 and 1/144, the 1/144 release contains an extra set of markings. The two common schemes are:
- US Army Air Force "Pioneer Mustang Group" memorial scheme for 950 kills during war, 354th Fighter Group, 1945 (finished overall in aluminum)
- US Army Air Force "Air Rescue Service", Hamilton AFB, 1946 (finished overall in Olive Drab with a lot of yellow over the entire aircraft)
The 1/144 sheet includes an extra airframe:
- US Air Force, "Camel Caravan to Berlin", 94th Transport Group, participated in the Berlin Airlift, 1948 (finished overall in aluminum)
All schemes include a lot of color, be it the "lots of yellow" of the Air Rescue Service aircraft, or the red flash down the fuselage of the 354th, or the large "Camel Caravan to Berlin" letters of that aircraft (along with the painted-on camel on the sides). Decals appear very nicely done, the colors are superb and appear to be in register.
Huge thanks to Rocketeer Decals for sending these review decal sets.
