Rocketeer Decals 1/72 F-104A & G “NASA Officers” 2.0
By Matt Bittner
One of the civilian agencies that flew F-104s was the National Aeronautcis and Space Administration (NASA) from the United States. Not only were they used for testing but NASA also used them as chase planes (for example, when providing support for the XB-70). The following aircraft are covered:
- F-104N, #011, 012, 013, 812; mainly used for supersonic chase, 1963
- F-104G, #826; NASA's last F-104, the last flight on 3 Feb 1994
- F-104G/F-104N, #811; besides supersonice chase missions, involved in materials research for STS (Space Shuttle) as test platform, 1975
- F-104A, #818, #820, 1975
- "Extra Scheme", F-104A; a virtual color rule issued in "NASA Design Standard Manual" in midst of 1980s, this scheme was not realized
I suspect the first scheme on this sheet will be the one chosen by many. And why not? It's extremely colorful and will stand out on any contest table (or within your own modeling shelves). The color really needs to be seen to be believed. In fact I can find no problems at all with these decals.
This is an excellent sheet to pick up if you want to build a NASA F-104 in 1/72. I definitely recommend it.
A big "thank you" to Rocketeer Decals for these decals to review.
