Print Scale 1/72 Dewoitine D.520 Part 2
By Matt Bittner
This time, Print Scale turns their sights onto the Dewoitine D.520. This set of decals contain markings for the following aircraft:
- Dewoitine D.520 White 6, GC lll/18, late 1944. This aircraft carries a heavy sprayed mottle of dark green over the blue grey fuselage sides. The title vas - y- jojo! was carried on the starboard side of the nose under the windscreen
- Dewoitine D.520 flown by Albert Littolff, GC lll, Free French Air Force, Rayak, Syria 1942
- Dewoitine D.520 No. 277, White 6, flown by Pierre Le Gloan, GC lll/6, Syria 1941
- Dewoitine D.520 No. 52, White 29, GC lll/6, Alep-Nirab, Syria 1941
- Dewoitine D.520 No. 140, White 9, Squadron 1AC, Tafaraoui, Algeria, spring 1941. The unit's seahorse insignia is painted on the fuselage
- Dewoitine D. 520 No. 273, White 3, flown by Denis Ponteins, France, May 1940
- Dewoitine D.520, Squadron 2AC, North Africa 1941. It appears from photographic reference that the nose tip was painted blue with red bands
- Dewoitine D.520 , No.302, White 30, of GC lll/6 North Africa, late 1940
- DewoitineD.520 FFI of Chateauroux, 27th of August 1944
I have seen in some forums where the second machine, flown by Albert Littolff, GC lll, was actually finished in a sand, or buff color and not blue. So research is definitely required prior to finishing this bird.
Aircraft seven in the list - Squadron 2AC, North Africa 1941 - appears to be in a two-color camouflage scheme. However, as Print Scale only provides the port-side profile, again more research is needed on this bird. The rest, I leave it up to the reader. I have a few references on the D.520 but didn't go through each and every one to check for accuracy.
Print Scale includes special roundels for those aircraft using them, but for the "generic type" of roundels, only one set is included. In addition only one set of rudder stripes, but if you paint your own stripes, Print Scale includes each aircraft's serial separately which is a huge boon. You'll just need to source extra roundels if you want to build more that two aircraft from this set.
Huge thanks to Print Scale for sending this set to review.
