Peddinghaus Decals 1/72 Breguet 14 Decals
By Matt Bittner
Overview
New to Internet Modeler, Peddinghaus Decals is a decal producer from Germany that has quite the vast catalog. One area important to me is WWI aviation, and they have plenty to choose from, including these three sheets for the Breguet 14.
The Decals
The first set of decals covers the bomber version, the Breguet 14 B2. This set comes with markings for three B2s:
- Escadrill Br.117, Serial 1333/Black 3, Charles Kaciterlin, Plessis-Belleville, France, June 1918 (finished in the French Michelin five-color camouflage)
- Escadrille Br.131, Serial 4073/White 1, Albert Mézergues, Vileneuve-le-Roi, France, June 1918 (finished in French Michelin five-color)
- Escadrille Br.132, Serial unknown/Red 1, Jean Jannekeyn/Eugene Weismann, Le Mesnil-Ameriot, France, August 1918 (finished in French Michelin five-color)
Each aircraft has a paragraph associated with it, which includes notes about the pilot/gunners and plane's markings/colorings. The first two even have small photographs of the aircraft attached to the paragraph.
The second set covers the reconnaissance version, the Breguet 14 A2. This set also comes with markings for three A2s:
- Escadrill Br.202, "Gabrielle", Serial 779, France, Winter 1917/1918 (this aircraft was left "natural", CDL on the fabric surfaces and ochre paint on the metal surfaces)
- Escadrille Br.220, Serial 841, Franche, Spring 1918 (finished in French Breguet five-color)
- Escadrille Br.221, Serial 200x, France, Summer 1918 (finished in French Breguet five-color)
Like the set for the B2, each aircraft has a paragraph associated with it, which includes notes about the plane's markings/colorings. All aircraft have small photographs of the aircraft attached to the paragraph.
The final set of markings is again for the Breguet 14 B2, but all in United States "Aero Squadron" (USAS) service. This set also comes with markings for four B2s:
- 96th Aero, Serial 4012/Black 12, Immerath, Germany, 11/07/1918 (finished overall in green)
- 96th Aero, Serial 4015/Black 15, Cochem, Germany, 11/07/1918 (finished overall in green)
- 96th Aero, Serial 4005/White 5, Pünderich, Germany, 11/07/1918 (finished overall in green)
- 96th Aero, Serial 4350/Red 10 (finished overall in French Michelin five-color)
Like the set for the B2, each aircraft has a paragraph associated with it, which includes notes about the plane's markings/colorings. They all also have small photographs of the aircraft attached to the paragraph.
Decals appear in register and are very nicely done.
If I had to complain it would be that the profile artwork does not match the narrative. For example, the side-view of the last 96th Aero Breguet shows it finished overall in a "dark yellow" but the included photo shows it in five-color camouflage. The same goes with the top/bottom view of the other 96th Aero aircraft, this time showing the plane in five-color camouflage when the narrative says they were overall in green. Definitely have references available when researching the scheme you're interested. But still, even with this complaint I am very thankful for these Breguet decals. Given the latest quality of AZ/KPs decals, which thankfully KP has re-released their excellent 1/72 Breguet 14s, an aftermarket set of decals is a necessity.
I am looking forward to more World War I decals from Peddinghaus. Note that these decals are also available in 1/48.
I definitely thank Peddinghaus Decals for sending these sets to review.
