Overview

Aircraft canopies are one of the more challenging items to finish on a kit, as the plastic parts can vary greatly in quality. A good aftermarket vacuformed canopy can provide a thin and clear replacement for those plastic parts, and Pavla has produced quite an extensive line of vacuformed canopies for a wide range of subjects. Their latest releases cover both 1/72 and 1/48 aircraft.

V 72-80 Gloster Meteor F.3

This canopy is designed for the very nice Cyber-Hobby (Dragon) 1/72 Gloster Meteor F.3. The canopy is molded in three parts, so it can easily be displayed open.

V 72-82 F-86F Sabre

The new Airfix F-86 kit has seen quite a few aftermarket accessories, and this canopy will help show off a nicely detailed cockpit.

V 72-83 DH 100 Vampire Mk 1

This set is designed for the Amodel kit of the Mk 1 Vampire, and it includes two canopies: one for the early style and one for the simpler later style.

V 72-84 DH 100 Vampire Mk 6

This canopy, also designed for the Amodel Vampire, covers the later Mk 6 variant. It would also work for most late-mark Vampires.

V 48-11 Sea Vixen FAW.2

Another new Airfix kit, the 1/48 Sea Vixen is quite exciting to see. This canopy includes a small bit of resin to provide the center splitter.

Conclusion

These are simple and inexpensive updates to use on a model that should greatly improve the look of the clear parts. My thanks to Pavla Models for the review samples.
