Khee-Kha Art Products 1/72 Custom Cabin Biplane Upgrade Set for Dujin Waco ZQC-6
By Jim Schubert
History
The history of Waco was set out in the August 2009 issue of this magazine in my review of the YKS kit.
Waco's model designation system(?) is a nearly impenetrable, alphabet soup of letters and numbers. Only truly dedicated Waco fans have persevered to penetrate it. A few years ago Dujin of France produced a ZQC-6 kit. Though quite a nice kit, it has some problems. Lars Opland, a keen Waco fan and owner of Khee-Kha, has produced an upgrade kit of seven resin parts, a vac windscreen and instructions to correct the kit's problems. He actually did it for the Dujin kit he was building and figured he might as well make the results available to all.
The Upgrade Set
This upgrade set comprises a beautifully cast Jacobs R-755, L-4, seven-cylinder radial engine, optional Curtiss-Reed and Hamilton-Standard ground adjustable propellers, an instrument panel, a tailwheel and a throw-over control yoke plus an accurate vac windscreen. The two pages of instructions are typical of Khee-Kha; written by an enthusiast model builder who knows what he is talking about. They include a beautifully drawn, accurate 3-view of the ZQC-6.Conclusion
Typical high-quality Khee-Kha resin castings and serious, no-nonsense instructions written for the model builder characterize this upgrade kit I have to wonder, though, how many Dujin Waco ZQC-6 kits there are that need this set.
The set sells for $12.50 plus $5.00 shipping in North America. Go to their website for full ordering details and to see the rest of Khee-Kha's product line.
Our thanks to Khee-Kha for the review sample of this set.
