Exito Decals 1/48 "Pacific Warriors Vol. 1"
By Jacob Russell
This is a brand new 1/48th scale decal sheet from Exito Decals. It consists of 3 very different and exciting aircraft. They are as follows:
"Black 501," P-51D-25-NA, serial number 44-72640, flown by Capt. Evelyn Neff, 457th FS/506th FG, Iwo Jima, late spring/summer, 1945. This Mustang was natural metal with painted aluminum wings. The rear fuselage and horizontal stabilizers were Light Green and the rear control surfaces were also painted aluminum. The Light Green areas were striped rather than solid earlier in the aircraft's career and it carried VERY risque art of "Margie" below the windshield.
"Yellow 47," P-40N, serial number unknown, Lt. David R. Winternitz, 8th FS/49th FG, New Guinea, Winter, 1945. This plane was Olive Drab over Neutral Grey. The rear fuselage, fin, rudder and wing leading edges were white. The spinner was yellow with a black stripe as were the upper fin & rudder. There were Medium Green splotches on the wings and horizontal stabilizers. There was risque "Mary Lou" nose art on the lower cowl.
"Black E," P-38L-5-LO, serial number 44-26490, flown by Lt. E.T. Johnson, 36th FS/8th FG, Le Shima, Ryukyu Islands, late summer, 1945. This P-38 carried colorful "Jean Creamer" nose art and it was natural metal with black bands outlined in white on the wings. The inner face of each engine nacelle was black. The upper tail booms were white with a thin black line and the upper nose was black with a thin white outline.
Cartograph of Italy printed the decals and they are top quality with tight registration. They are brightly colored and crisply printed with legible stencils. The decals come with a 2-sided color profile for each plane, with period photographs and a guide to applying the decals plus color call outs for AK Interactive and GSI Creos Mr. Hobby paints.
This is a first class product. All 3 planes are colorful and interesting. If you're looking for some markings for your next P-38, P-40N or P-51D model here are some options worth considering. I recommend these decals and I would lilke to thank Exito Decals for the review sample.
