Eduard Brassin 1/48 Bf110E/F/G Main wheels
By Chris Cowx
This is my first experience with Eduard resin parts. Like most of us, I have certainly made lots of use of their photoetch parts and am a big fan, but I have never used their resin bits. I have to say that the Brassin parts certainly hold up the family honour in fine style!
The wheels are made in two parts. The outer hub face is molded with the tire while the inner hub which includes the landing gear leg mounting hole is a separate piece. This is helpful for painting of course. Eduard also includes a mask made of the yellow crepe paper they use for their canopy masks. The molding gates for the main tires are very small and likely could be separated using an X-acto knife rather than the more customary razor saw. The hubs for the back side are a bit different story and will certainly need a razor saw. Since the cut surface will not be visible, it is not too critical, although I would be cautious to make sure they don't end up recessed too far.
The detail is extremely fine and very well molded. The brake lines have a very nice undercut appearance and when painted will look like a separate line rather than molded on additions. In fact the detail is so fine that my only real concern with this set is that the hub and tire detail could disappear under a coat of paint. This is not a complaint but a compliment to the scale depth of the relief that has been achieved by Eduard! Careful painting should bring these gems to life.
Highly recommended, especially as the kit manufacturers seem to have a bit of trouble with 110 wheels for some reason! I would like to thank Eduard for providing the review sample.
