Eduard 1/72 Su-33 Masks
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Overview
The Hasegawa 1/72 Sukhoi Su-33 Sea Flanker kit is an impressive kit out of the box. Nicely detailed and fairly accurate, it builds up into a good looking model, with a complex camouflage and colorful markings. This mask set is designed for that kit, simplifying one small step in the building process.
The Masks
Cut out of the usual Eduard masking material, this set provides masks for the canopy. These are split into right and left halves for each canopy section, including the windscreen. Adding these pieces along the edges leaves the center open, and the instructions indicate to use liquid mask there to complete the canopy mask. Alternatively, one could use scrap tape pieces, either from a regular roll of tape or from the leftover edges of the Eduard mask.
Conclusion
This is a nice mask set that simplifies a bit of work in finishing the model. Given the complexity of the camouflage on the Su-33, a bit of simplification is very welcome indeed. My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
