Eduard 1/72 Eduard L-39ZA Weekend Photoetch
By Matt Bittner
Eduard's 1/72 L-39 has been release numerous times, the latest being a Weekend Edition kit with no photoetch, no masks and decals for only two schemes. The premise behind Weekend Edition kits is they are able to be built "in a weekend" (something beyond my comprehension, sometimes I take years to finish a model) so they tend not to include anything besides the plastic and decals, usually just one scheme. However, there are people that want Weekend Edition kits and still want to add extra detail to it. Eduard has seen this so has started providing photoetch tailored toward the Weekend Edition kits.
This photoetch set for the 1/72 L-39ZA (#SS517) consists of detail for the side consoles (once you sand away the molded-on detail), a better instrument panel (again, needing the plastic piece to be sanded smooth) and a replacement heads-up-display. Other photoetch items for the cockpit include extra sidewall detail and plenty of additional items for the ejection seat (including seat belts and extra parts for the headrest).
For the exterior Eduard provides piping for the landing gear, new doors for the smaller landing gear doors, antenna and replacement pieces and additions for the 'ZA' gun pod.
This "Zoom" set provides just enough photoetch details to add interest to an already outstanding kit.
My thanks to Eduard for the photoetch set.
