Eduard 1/72 A6M2 Zero S.A.
By Jacob Russell
This new set (item number 73426) is for Airfix's A6M2 Reisen (Zeke). It consists of 77 pieces on 2 frets, one of which is self-adhesive. The majority of pieces on this fret are pre-painted. It includes items like a new instrument panel, seat and harness, sidewalls, rudder pedals, throttle quadrant and the various consoles and levers for the sidewalls. To use the sidewalls you will need to remove the existing detail and this is detailed in Eduard's easy to follow instructions. I found it a bit strange that the instrument panel and sidewalls are pre-painted and the seat is not...
The second fret includes items such as wing folds, ignition harness, d/f loop, landing gear doors (both inner and outer), gunsight, brake lines, etc. A particularly nice touch is a set of covers for the hinges for the upper and lower cowling halves.
This is a great addition to a great kit. Tamiya stole a bit of Airfix's thunder when they released their own new A6M2 in 1/72nd scale. The Airfix kit retails for approximately 1/3rd of the price of Tamiya's and it is aimed at a different market. Airfix's new A6M2 is accurate and well detailed and Eduard's new set ups the ante. I recommend this set and I would like to thank Eduard for the review sample.
