DXM 1/48 KLU F-16AM 311 Sqn 60th Anniversary 2011 Decals
By Winston Gould
DXM has released several decal sheets that focus on the different and unusual. Sheet 11-4110 covers F-16AM J-367, in the 60th Anniversary of 311 Squadron, Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu) (Royal Netherlands Air Force) markings. The F-16AM is the result of a Mid-Life Update (MLU) for the four EPAF (European Participating Air Forces) countries: Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway, with the United States also participating. This allowed the EPAF countries a cost-effective way to update and modernize their F-16s without purchasing new aircraft. The MLU aircraft are designated as F-16AM (single-seat) and F-16BM (twin-seat). I recommend www.f-16.net for more information. The complete package comes in a resealable poly bag – however, beware of the adhesive when you replace the items in the bag. Extra Eagles for the Vertical Stabilizer are included to fit the different F-16 kit manufacturers tails. As always, trim close to the decal and test-fit dry.
Comprehensive instructions leave no doubt about placement of the stencils and major squadron markings. Included are stencils for one aircraft with appropriate Anniversary markings. Instruction paint color call-outs are for GSI Mr. Color and Humbrol. These markings should fit the Academy, Hasegawa, Kinetic and Tamiya F-16 kits with no problems. The challenge will be to build a correct F-16AM. I recommend the Kinetic F-16AM kits with plenty of internet and book research.
My thanks to DXM for sending this detail set in for review.
