Clear Prop! 1/144 OV-1A/JOV-1A Mohawk Photoetched Parts and Painting Masks
By Matt Bittner
Introduction
When I reviewed the Clear Prop! 1/144 OV-1 I thought of areas where photoetch could be helpful. Plus the lack of canopy (et.al.) masks was also noticeable. However, that's all moot, now, as Clear Prop! has released this set aimed specifically at their kit.
The Aftermarket
The photoetch fret contains 35 pieces of brass and the masks not only cover the clear pieces, but are also there for painting the wheels. The photoetch contains ejection seat "pull" handles for the top of the seats; oleo scissors for the nose gear; various (and lots of) antenna; fins for the external fuel tanks; and both ends for both sets of rocket pods.
The mask set is for primarily the canopy, but the nice part is Clear Prop! includes masks for the INSIDES of the canopy pieces as well. Since you can pose one of the canopy parts open, this will prove be to a more accurate way of painting. Also included on the mask set is a way to mask the tires - painted first - so you can paint the wheels, afterwards.
Conclusion
The biggest advantage to this set from Clear Prop! are the masks. Adding the external, photoetch antennas will definitely make your 1/144 OV-1 stand out from the others..
Many thanks to Clear Prop! for sending this set to review.
