Brengun 1/144 Eduard MiG-15 Photoetch
By Matt Bittner
It's wonderful to see how quickly some modeling companies release product. Even though the Eduard 1/144 MiG-15 hasn't been around long, it was actually first given out during Eduard's E-Day modeling event. So if you were one of the lucky ones to receive that hand-out, then you had the kit prior to the rest of the modeling world. That would be enough time for a company like Brengun to design and release an enhancement set for the kit, not long after the kit was released "to the masses". This provides the company with an excellent opportunity to garner sales at the time the kit is released.

Brengun's photoetch set for the Eduard 1/144 MiG-15 does not disappoint. In it you receive enough photoetch to finish both Eduard kits (Eduard has released the MiG-15 as a "dual combo", with two kits in a box) which is definitely a plus. Parts included on the fret include a new fold-up ejection seat complete with belts; a replacement, fold-up cockpit tub (although you'll need to cut the front of the kits' cockpit tub to add it to the front of the photoetch) complete with additional side-wall detail; an instrument panel to add to the kits' front part; additional pieces for the area under the canopy, both in the cockpit and directly under the clear part; replacement landing gear doors with hinges; additional antenna for the underside of the wings; replacement strakes for the top of the wing (yes, you'll need to carefully sand/scrape down the ones molded on the kit); and both intake and exhaust covers.
This is an excellent photoetch set to add plenty of detail to an already nice kit. Does the kit need it? It depends on your outlook. The kit is definitely good enough, but if you want more detail in your models then this is definitely a worthy set.
Plenty of thanks is given to Brengun for supplying this set to review.
