Armory 1/72 MiG-25R Conversion
By Matt Bittner
Introduction
The MiG-25R was a reconnaissance version of the famous MiG-25P. Changed were a new nose with cameras installed, larger engines and other "bits and bumps".
The Conversion
A few years ago, Pavla released a conversion nose (and vac canopy) to create a MiG-25RB/RBS. However, Pavla only provided the nose and it didn't replace the engine "cans", since those were larger. With this conversion from Armory, you also receive the correct engine cans. Armory provides these, along with photoetch exhaust "fans"; the replacement, resin nose; replacement wing tip "pods"; and two ECM blisters for the front of the intakes. This conversion also comes with decals. There are six aircraft, five Russian and one Egyptian:
- E-155R-3 prototype of miG-25R
- "Red 72", Soviet AF
- "Blue 45", Soviet AF
- "Yellow 40", Soviet AF
- Egyption MiG-25R
- "Red 25", Soviet AF
The conversion is recommended for the Condor/Zvezda MiG-25P since the "straight" MiG-25R was based on that airframe (and the ICM kit is the MiG-25PD). The differences between the –R and the –RB/–RBS are unknown to me at this time so you may want to perform further research if wanting to build the –RB/–RBS.
An excellent set that will convert your Condor/Zvezda MiG-25P into a MiG-25R. My thanks to Armory for sending this set to review. Now to build it!
