Ivey Models 1/72 German Field Kitchen
By Matt Bittner
The first conversion piece from Ivey Models is this 1/72 German Field Kitchen, meant for 3 ton GS trucks (primarily, the Opel Blitz). The conversion piece is a simple adaptation to any Opel Blitz kit. There are four parts to the kit; the main stove; one-piece legs that are to be cut into four pieces (more on this later); the stove pipe (unfortunately mine broke in-transit); and a storage cabinet that should be mounted to the front of the Opel Blitz' bed.I think I can glue the stove pipe pieces together to create the single pipe; the bigger problem lies with the legs. There is one piece that is meant to be cut in four, and glued to the locater holes on the underside of the stove to hold it up. Unfortunately the resin is a little soft, and the part wasn't molded completely, so I'm not sure exactly what these legs look like. I think they're supposed to represent angle iron by looking at the images on the Ivey Models site, but I can't tell for sure. Even so, I would probably replace the legs anyway, given the soft nature of the resin used. Is this is big deal? Not at all! I would not let this stop you from purchasing this conversion set.
The detail is a little soft on the top of the stove, but with the right dry brushes and washes, all the excellent detail will really pop regardless. This is an superb conversion piece, and one that shouldn't take a long time to put together. Sure, you still have to build the whole Opel Blitz model to put it on, but adding this Field Kitchen to the built-up Blitz shouldn't take very long at all. Many thanks to Ivey Models for sending this to review.
