Revell's 1/48 Republic F-84E
By Will Riepl
When ProModeler came out with the F-84G a couple years back one thing that stood out was part 22, the fuselage panel. By having that separate it looked like they were going to do an early F-84E, and that is exactly what they did. There's a total of 206 parts in gray plastic and 16 parts in clear. The big surprise is the canopy. You get two canopies: one with the frames and a clear one. There are also some new parts. You get RATO bottles, and a different dive brake, and two more tanks. They also changed the tail cone, as it is longer than on the F-84G. One thing they didn’t change was the nav lights. On the F-84E they had two nav lights side by side. But this kit is like the ProModeler F-84G: one on top and bottom. This will not be hard to take care of. As for the rest of the kit it is just like the ProModeler F-84G, but with seat belts, a ladder, and a nuclear bomb. One of the best things is the decal. When they came out with the new F 86D they changed the color of red in the decal, and now it is really red, not the funny red that has been in the old kits. They’re all in register and you can read all of the writing. This is a big plus for Revell. I know that the new reissue of the F-100D has the new decals and they are nice. If you have not got one yet do so.It would be nice to see some early decals come out for the E, like some of ANG markings, and some more out of Korea. At $16.00 you can get two of them, and not go broke. |
