Kovozávody Prostějov 1/72 Mustang Mark III "Malcolm Hood"
By Matt Bittner
The Kit
Since I have already provided a First Look of Kovozávody Prostějov's (KP) 1/72 P-51C, and since the only change between it and this Mustang Mark III is the canopy and the decals, I will refer the reader to my previous First Look. The plastic is the same between both kits aside from the injected Malcolm Hood, blown canopy provide with this Mark III.
However, pay close attention to the instructions. While the P-51C shows mounting the underside, rear fuselage "exhaust channel" the Mustang Mk.III instructions do not. I seriously doubt the Mustang Mk.III did not have this feature.
Decals are for the following aircraft: Mustang Mk.III, SS, 133 Sqn RAF (Polish), Polish pilot (ace) W/Cdr. Stanislaw Skalski, based at Coolham, June, 1944; Mustang Mk. III, YT-J, 65 Sq2n RAF, piloted by Sqn Lr J Westenra, Ford and Funtington airfield, May 1944; and Mustang Mk.III, QV-Q, 19 Sqn RAF, piloted by F/O Peter Wass, based at Peterhead, May 1945. All are finished in Dark Green and Ocean Grey over Light Grey. The first machine also has a white nose/spinner and D-Day stripes; the second has a red and white nose; the third a yellow and black-striped nose.
Conclusion
The Kovozávody Prostějov Mustangs are really nice kits and will look great built up. One item that really strikes me, though, is the complete lack of ordnance of any kind. No external fuel tanks, no bombs, nothing. For some reason KP decided to release these as separate items instead of within the kits. So they're available, just as separate items.
We definitely thank Kovozávody Prostějov for the review samples.
