Arma Hobby 1/72 F4F-4 Wildcat "Operation Torch"
By Matt Bittner
Overview
I've provided a First Look on the initial release of Arma Hobby's 1/72 F4F-4 Wildcat. Please refer to that article to know more about the kit, as this First Look will only be about the differences between the two releases.
The Kit
The only differences between the first Arma Hobby 1/72 F4F-4 release and this one is the lack any photoetch or 3D printed parts and the different decals, although all of the marking choices were initially released with the F4F-4 Expert set. This release comes with the following schemes:
- F4F-4 Wildcat, "3512/29-GF-10", squadron VGF-29, crash-landed on the USS Santee during Operation Torch, November 1942
- F4F-4 Wildcat, "8-26", squadron VGF-27, Guadalcanal, April 1943
- Martlet II, "AJ148 / Ø-7A", No. 888 FAA Squadron from carrier HMS Formidable, Oran, Algeria, December 1942
The kit will build the same as all the others so refer to my other First Looks to see how it's broken out. Note that this release does come with masks. The instructions also come with a QR code you can use to download STL files to 3D print yourself additional details such as a seat with harness, cockpit levers, bombs, etc.
Conclusion
The Arma Hobby F4F-4 is definitely the definitive model of this important WW2 fighter. This release I will definitely build mostly out of the box, just adding depth to the decal seat belts and the antenna wire.
Huge thanks sent to Arma Hobby for sending the kit to review.
