Intro

Hello fellow builders. I am so happy to be getting back into modeling. Personally, I have been going through somewhat of a muscle car obsession lately. With a perfectly timed delivery, I received this 1970 Plymouth Road Runner by Monogram. The Road Runner is a great looking car from the heart of the muscle car battle between "The Big 3". The Plymouth Road Runner was all muscle putting out 390 horsepower and it looks great too. So, without further delay, let's take a look at the kit. Parts_4_3.JPG

The Kit

At first glance, the packaging looks old. I like this a lot. When you go to the local hobby shop, the shelves are packed with models trying to get your attention. Wild colors, throwback cars, and weird pictures of cartoon ladies (see the "Donks" kits) adorn the boxes. This has a much cleaner classic look which reminds me about the models I built as a kid. The kit is in 1:24th scale and is a Skill Level 2. The kit has a great paint guide and really neat part chart that names each and every piece of the model. The kit has seventy-eight parts molded in plastic and then of course 4 rubber tires. Parts_5_3.JPG

The body of the car looks great. The only mold issues are on the underside of the doors, which can be easily sanded out and smoothed before priming. The front and rear windshields are molded in one piece and the front and rear lights are in the center of the cutout which represent the clear parts. The chassis also looks really good and has a lot of detail with frame, gas tank and even brake lines visible. The motor comes in the typical 2 halves, and they look huge. Parts_3_4.JPG

But then again, it is a 426 Hemi. I did notice some warping of the exhaust pipes. This is to be expected because it is a relatively thin part and goes a long way on the parts tree. One thing that I really like seeing is how much chrome there is in this kit. Parts_1_4.JPG

Two parts trees are chrome plated and have two sets of wheels, don't forget about that 6-barrel carburetor too.

The decals are well done and look really colorful. There are 30 decals in all on the sheet which includes the black stripe for the hood with the cutout for the scoop if you choose to build it that way. Road_Runner_Decals.jpg

Conclusion

Overall the kit looks great. The directions are clear and easy to read. The parts look great molded in white plastic. This should allow easier painting because you have a good idea how much paint or primer you are putting down. It will be a lot of fun researching some colors and ideas for this kit. I hope you enjoy building this as well. I am looking forward to getting started. I would like to thank Revell for providing the review sample. Happy modeling everybody.. Parts_2_4.JPG
