Hauler 1/87 Tatra T-111 S Heavy Duty Tipper
By Jacob Russell
The Tatra T-111s heavy duty truck had a 20 year production run which began during World War (1942) until the Model 138 replaced it in 1962. Powered by an air-cooled V-12 engine, the T-111 used Tatra's proven concept of a backbone tube chassis construction with swing half axles plus modular gearbox and differential assemblies.

Hauler's new 1/87th scale multimedia kit is composed of 99 parts. 44 of these are cast in grey resin and there are 45 photo-etch parts on a single fret plus a small decal sheet. The resin parts are well cast with easily removed pour stubs. Hauler has done an excellent job depicting the tubular backbone chassis; the casting is top notch. The cab interior and body are well detailed. The wheels, tires and transverse leaf-spring suspension look good, too. The PE parts include the steering wheel, windshield wipers, turn signals, grab handles, hood louvers, etc. Hauler's tiny decal sheet includes a pair of license plates and numbers for each door.

The grey-green color Hauler recommends is rather drab! It's correct for trucks pressed into service during World War II but I'm painting my T-111s in more interesting post-War "civilian" colors. The kit is well engineered and you'll stay out of trouble by following Hauler's well illustrated instructions.

Tatra's T-111s was a well engineered truck with a long production run. Hauler has created a neat 1/87th scale model of it. I recommend this to intermediate to advanced modelers with experience with small photo-etch parts. I would like to thank Hauler for the review sample.
